I shall be starting development to retrieve email from an Exchange Server shortly.

Does Exchange support message retrieval using POP3, or is it IMAP only?

MS Exchange supports message retrieving via both POP3 and IMAP4 protocols. Just make sure POP3 service is running on the MS Exchange server.
