Hi,
We are starting to use webmail lite .NET version. Is it possible to use web mail without .eml files that are stored to disk? And if so, how to disable this feature? Someone in the company thinks, that this could be a security vulnerability.
Regards, Joze

If you're using IMAP in Direct Mode, messages are accessed on mail server directly. In case of POP3, however, storing EMLs on web server cannot be avoided.
Please note that WebMail Lite .NET is no longer under active development. Consider using WebMail Lite PHP, it can run on Windows too.

Are EMLs evene necesary for webmail to work correctly? Can we create a task for deleting EMLs?
We have everything on windows platform and we have only .net developers, so PHP version is not an option in our company.
Regards,
Joze

Will you be using IMAP or POP3 access to the mail server?

To have complete functionality in case of POP3, storing mails on web server side is required, as they're downloaded from POP3 server and WebMail reads the message content from file, not from mail server directly.
You can configure WebMail to use Direct Mode, and set it as a default one. In that case, however, you will not be able to use any features which are not supported by POP3 protocol: multiple folders, read/unread message status, etc.
Another option is to have mails stored in database rather than files, that's enabled by setting StoreMailsInDb to 1 in App_Data/settings/settings.xml file. This setting, however, was always an experimental one, and it needs to be enabled on blank install before any user accounts are set up with WebMail.
