Does anyone know if there are any examples for connecting to a groupwise server to send/receive mail. I believe it uses socks.

Not sure about Groupwise specifically, but MailBee.NET Objects offers Proxy object which can be used to access IMAP, POP3 or SMTP server via proxy server.
