Hello,

First, congratulations for your work on Webmail Lite.

I installed everything without any problem, but i can't send
message.

I get a "Can't send message" error.

I triple checked my smtp login/pass.
I tried the smtp of my host, google, mobile me... They all
work on my mailer and iphone. I have no firewall blocking
the 25 and 587 ports.

And the only error message i get in the log is :

[22:57:48.523] [SMTP] Connecting to server smtp.me.com
on port 587

(My last try was with Mobile Me SMTP, but the message is
the same with Google and my web host 1and1).

They all use authentification.

With the same settings, Squirrel is working on the same
server (and yes i moved to After Logic because Squirrel is
so outdated...)

Do you have any idea, i'm running out of clues ?

Thanks !

Regards,

Julien

The first thing we need to know is whether you're using .NET or PHP version. Did you try using ports 465 and 25?

As far as I can tell, 1and1 do not require SMTP authentication, so if you have enabled this, it can be a reason of the issue. Try unchecking SMTP auth and let us know if this helps.

Hi,

I'm using PHP version.

I tried both ports 587 and 25, as it is written in the 1and1
FAQ (only Google use 465).

I tried with and without the authentification, with no
success (with both ports).

I checked, and 1and1 (french version) *does* require
authentification for SMTP.

Mail and my iPhone are configured with these settings, and
it works.

I'm totally lost ^^

Thanks !

Julien

How do you know you have no firewall blocking the ports? Did you try to telnet smtp.me.com 587 from your WebMail Lite server via remote desktop access?

Alex

I'm sorry, i meant i had no firewall locally.

I don't know if 1and1 is blocking 587 port from
a php access.

I have no telnet access nor SSH (i don't have a
dedicated server).

Thanks,

My bad, i found my SSH access on my admin. I'll
try to telnet from the server and see if the
smtp is responding.

Then contact 1and1 support for details. We can provide techsupport only for our products and assume the person installing the product has the required admin skills for the given environment. Things like checking ports on your hosted account, etc should be addressed to your hosting provider support if you need assistance in this regard.

Thanks, i've just sent an email to the admin.

I'll post the answer here if it's useful to any
other user with 1and1 hosting.

Hello,

I'm french and don't speak english well !!

I'm using webmail pro (php) and my web host is 1and1 too.
I have exactly the same problem.

I sent a mail to 1and1 support but no response for the moment.
Did you find a solution?

Thanks,

Augustin

According to this FAQ page, you should use auth.smtp.1and1.fr SMTP server. You might try unchecking SMTP authentication option.

Hope this helps!

thanks for your quick response,
i had already tried this solution, but it doesn't work

Error logs:
[11:35:37.635] [SMTP] Connecting to server auth.smtp.1and1.fr on port 587
6013::[11:35:43.648] [SMTP] Error: Connection refused

with and without SMTP autentification on port 25 and 587.

Augustin.

Error: Connection refused

That means the connection is blocked by firewall or other sort of protective software. In case of shared hosting, that means you're not allowed to use SMTP. Check with your hosting provider, maybe you need to supply some different settings.
