I tried all 3 connection options (sql server 2008, mysql and access), but all 3 result in a short error message: connection unsuccessful. Any clues why I receive this error message?

This could happen due to various reasons. For example, .NET database connector may be missing in your system. With MySQL, ODBC 3.51 Connector is recommended. Anyway, you should make sure you are using proper SQL credentials.
You can also use MS Access database shipped with the product, you should be able to find it under the following path:
Code:
c:\Program Files\AfterLogic XMail Server Pro\WEBMAIL\DATA\DB\_webmail.mdb |

Hello Igor, Thanks for your reply. I did try the MS Access
method with the exact same error message. Could there be a
common cause to all of them? Alternatively, what could cause
a connection problem to the Access database? I ensured that
the path was correct.

Is it possible to provide us with access to your XMail Server installation so that we could take a look? Please use our HelpDesk to send us AdminPanel access details. Thank you.
