We have moved our test email server to a live web server. i have installed it on a win 2003 server. everything is setup exactly the same as our local test environment that was working perfectly. we can connect with outlook and send and receive just fine internally and we can send to external domains without an issue. but emails from an external domain never get delivered. what have i done wrong.

You need to make sure DNS configuration of your domain is correct. At least A, MX and PTR records should point to the installation location.

here is the dns settings i am currently using all we did was change the ip to the new server.

Host      TTL      Numeric IP
www      7200      xxx.xxx.xxx
@ (None)      7200      xxx.xxx.xxx
* (All Others)      7200      xxx.xxx.xxx
mail.getanyaction.com      7200      xxx.xxx.xxx
Add/Edit
Mail Servers (MX Records)

Note: Mail Servers are listed in rank order

getanyaction.com

MXMailServer(Preference)      TTL
mail.getanyaction.com.(10)      7200

I've checked the DNS records of the domain and it looks like rDNS for MX record is not configured. While nslookup mail.getanyaction.com points to 216.157.39.228, nslookup 216.157.39.228 doesn't point anywhere. This is a critical requirement for many mail servers around the world, including GMail for instance.

we use network solutions to manage our dns for the domain. they have limited settings to configure.

Connected to 216.157.39.228 but connection died. (#4.4.2) I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too long.

is the error we are getting while sending to the domain. i am no dns master thats for sure.

Then I guess checking with NetSol techsupport seems to be the way out. Neither getanyaction.com nor mail.getanyaction.com have reverse DNS record configured correctly for them. Hopefully, they will be able to provide a solution.

And you should also make sure that ports like 25 are properly opened to the world. If external SMTP servers are unable to communicate with your server, mail delivery wouldn't work.
