Good evening. We are testing AL Webmail Lite and seem to have everything in order. When I lauch the Install page (website/adminpanel/install.php) everything has been OKd by the page, with the following exception(s):
1) MySQL - using MSSQL so no biggy,
2) SSL - not using right now, so no biggy,
3) Sesion.save path. I get this error: PHP sessions: Error, session support in PHP must be enabled (more text...).

I've checked the php.ini file and have set it correcty. I know this because we use the Webadmin page from hMailServer and it uses sessions. In addition, I deleted all files from my session path, and reran the install.php page and a session var appeared.

I believe that I have been quite diligent in researching, reading and reviewing almost every doc I can find. I like the looks of this product and hope I can resovle this minor issue.

At this point, I am not proceeding with the rest of the install so as to make sure that everything is as it should be.

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance.

Are you basically saying that session-related error message is no longer displayed in the installer? If so, you don't need to worry about it. As long as there is Next button instead of Retry on that installer page, you can proceed with the installation as no critical configuration issues were detected.

[Resolved]...

Hi Igor. The message is being displayed on the Installer Page, but I did have a Next Button.

What I did was use the .NET version. We predominantly try to use PHP for these kinds of apps, but in this case I put up the .NET flavor and all is well.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Hello,

Here also trying to test AL webmail.

I've similar problem that thePCdoctor described ("PHP
sessions: Error, session support in PHP must be enabled")
but although php.ini is ok (and permissions checked on
session dir) I always get that error and can not continue
instalation, "retry" button remains ... so, I'm stuck.

Will appreciate any help.

Thank you in advance.

While it's possible that the issue is connected with AfterLogic WebMail itself, you need to make sure that PHP sessions work indeed. There are many reasons why it might not work, for instance - lack of write permissions over the folder used for session data storage.

We have a simple script which can detect if session support is active indeed. It will show ERROR message if session data is not passed as expected, and OK message otherwise. In case if it shows OK in your case, but WebMail installer still doesn't acknowledge this, please let us know.

Thanks for your answer, Igor.

session_test.php give OK, and webmail installers still says
"Error, session support in PHP must be enabled".

Hope this can help us ...

Regards,
Jorge.

Weird. I will ask our developers team to check this, probably there's an issue in the installer itself, or maybe some other conditions should be met additionally. Will let you know on this.

Is it possible to provide us with the URL of your installation location, so that we could check it? Ideally, we'll need FTP access to be able to tweak the scripts. Please submit the details through our HelpDesk system.

I'm having the session issue also. I have used the attached session test script which states it is all ok. As i am using the webmail Pro with 5 free licenses I cannot get into the helpdesk system, so would appreciate it if you could let me know how I can resolve this issue. I am using this with a view to purchasing a license for more so would appreciate the assistance.
I am running centos 5 on my system

What version of the product are you running? If it's older than 5.1.4, upgrade to the latest version and check if the issue persists.

If you believe that sessions and the rest is OK you can skip the installer and start using adminpanel directly with the default credentials (mailadm / 12345). In the meantime, I will check with the developers and if there's something can be done about this I will get back to you.

Well, i am facing the same issue. Session Error although it's already enabled on my web server.
also trying with session_test.php and it gives me OK message.

Then, try to login with default admin account which is provided above, it's logged into admin pannel and
ask me for license key, then it kicks me out to login page after input trial license key. I tried with this
many times.

I am using the latest version of afterlogic webmail pro 5.1.7
Is that possible to fix session.save_path?

If not, how can i complete installing it?

Thank you.

The testing script you mentioned works with very basic layer of PHP session support and can only detect superficial issues, while in your case there's probably some deeper problem, possibly with assigning a session name. It's not about session detection in the installer, and the failure when trying to add a license key confirms that. I suggest to check this with PHP documentation and your server support.

thanks for your reply.

First problem, it's detecting session path. The installation can't detect php session although it's enabled
already and working normally --> solve by access directly to adminpanel.

Second problem, can't apply license key, it's auto logout to adminpanel login page --> solved by using
other browsers (ex: Firefox).
I use Safari on MAC and it took me to this problem.

Third problem, session timout with Safari browser, i am facing this problem --> solved by using FF
browser.

Hope these info would improve this product in the future :)

Thank you.

complete the setup normally.
But i am facing the new error " Failed to connect (500 - Internal Server Error)" after trying to login with any

Is there anyone know how to fix it problem?

Thank you.

There was a problem affecting this with 5.1.8 release, so we've rushed to fix it, try version 5.1.9, the issue should be resolved.

Update .....
Try with another user account, it works perfectly. Then i login to adminpanel and delete the issue user.
Back to login page, and login with this user, it works normally.

Hope this info will be useful for other users and help to improve the application.

Actually, there was another update today, there's a chance that update to 5.1.10 will resolve the issue, it has helped another user already :)
